I'm a Californian and doing 99% of my 16 year driving career in California, we must be really different than the rest of the country. If a highway has a 65mph speed limit on say your typical 3 lane highway the left #1 lane = 70 to 80 mph, middle #2 lane = 65 to 75 mph, the right #3 lane = 65 and below and the semis.
I and many others will cruise at 75 mph for hours at a time. Keep it under 80 and the CHP will usually leave you alone.

I mean I wouldn't do over 70 past a highway patrol but yeah, the left lane is 75-80

True true I think the highway makes a difference, I drive the 1 everyday and I know I need to keep it under 75, but I5 in the valley where the limit is 70 it seems like everyone in the fast lane is going 90 without any fear of a ticket.

probably because there aren't a lot of hiding spots for cops on the 5, lol
